- The Libyan international telecom company LITC is announcing the completion of the maintenance works of the international submarine cable (Silphium) which was suffered of bombing in the submarine cable landing station in the city of Dernah in two times ( the first was dated 28/8/2013 and the second was dated 29/10/2013)
- Silphium is the first International submarine cable that owned by Libya 100% and it connects the eastern region of the country with the world where it was launched in June 2012 with a length of 425 Km and initial capacity of 70 Gbps that able to reach to 1.2 Tbps as per the designed capacity, Silphium connects the city of Dernah with the city of Crete in the Greek island (Chania), this submarine cable is recognized as quite unique at the time of its launch where it was considered the longest repeater less submarine cable system in the world.
- As per the current progress, it is Expected that Silphium will be relaunched by the first quarter 2019.
